The capital is inside the path of totality
The path of totality crosses western Iceland, including the Westfjords, Snaefellsnes, West Iceland, the Greater Reykjavik Area and the Reykjanes peninsula.
This is the first total solar eclipse visible from Reykjavik since 1433.

In the Greater Reykjavik Area, totality ends at 17:49:18. Totality lasts about one minute.
The partial phase runs from 16:47 to 18:47. Certified solar eclipse glasses meeting the ISO 12312-2 standard are needed to look at the partial phases.
Designated areas and closed streets
Designated viewing areas have been set up in urban locations. They have access to restrooms, parking and on-site assistance. People are encouraged to use these designated viewing areas rather than remote sites.
Some streets in central Reykjavik and on Seltjarnarnes are closed for part of the afternoon and evening on eclipse day. Vegagerdin publishes the current list of road closures and gathering areas, and road users are directed to it rather than to a fixed list.
Grotta is closed on the day
Access to Grotta on Seltjarnarnes is prohibited on eclipse day because of the high tide.
Moving around the city that afternoon
Traffic management on eclipse day begins at 08:00. Reduced speed limits are expected on eclipse day.
A significant increase in traffic is expected in certain areas. Road users are asked to be patient and allow extra time.
Parking on the roadway or on road shoulders is strictly prohibited. Illegally parked vehicles will be removed at the owner's expense.
Authorities recommend that people inside the path of totality watch from their homes or their local area, to reduce strain on infrastructure and protect sensitive areas.
