Do I need a 4x4 to drive Iceland's F-roads?
Yes. The Highland F-roads legally require a 4x4 vehicle, and they are open in summer only. The exact opening dates vary by road and by year, so check road.is before you set out. A standard 2WD is not permitted and is not equipped for the unpaved, often river-crossing terrain.
Is wild camping legal in Iceland with a campervan?
No. Wild camping is illegal in Iceland. You need to stay at a registered campsite, or have the landowner's explicit permission, even with a self-contained campervan.
Why doesn't this page show rental prices?
A rental price depends on your dates, car class, and insurance choice, so any number we cached here would be wrong within days and impossible to keep current. Instead we link you directly to each partner's own site to check live, current rates.
Is a budget 2WD enough for the Ring Road?
Yes, a small 2WD is enough for the Ring Road and the Golden Circle in summer conditions. It just cannot be taken onto the F-roads in the Highlands, which require a 4x4.
What is the difference between a local operator and a reseller?
