Iceland’s main fuel retail brands are N1, Olis, Orkan, OB, Atlantsolia, and Costco. N1 is the largest network and has stations in every part of the country, while Costco has a single fuel station in Gardabaer near Reykjavik. Service formats split between full-service and self-service only, depending on the chain.
Iceland's petrol station brands at a glance
The main brands are N1, Olis, Orkan, OB, Atlantsolia, and Costco.
N1 is the largest fuel retail network in Iceland, with stations in every part of the country. At larger N1 locations, staffed full-service pumps sit alongside self-service pumps, and there is a Nesti convenience store selling food, snacks, and travel essentials. Smaller N1 locations are self-service only.
Olis runs full-service stations with convenience stores and food counters. OB operates under the Olis company as a self-service-only, app-based brand.
Orkan is mainly a self-service chain and generally offers lower prices, especially at its self-service locations.
Atlantsolia operates only self-service stations and has no staffed forecourt at any location. It introduced the self-service pump card, daelulykill, to Iceland and still offers pump-card and app-based payment.
Costco runs a single fuel station at its warehouse in Gardabaer near Reykjavik.
Full-service versus self-service: what changes at the pump
A full-service station has at least some staffed pumps and usually a convenience store or food counter. A self-service, discount station is unmanned, with payment taken only at the pump.
N1 and Olis are the brands with staffed, full-service locations. Orkan, OB, Atlantsolia, and Costco operate on a self-service-only basis.
Costco fuel is limited to members. The company accepts membership cards issued abroad as well as Icelandic ones.
Where each chain's network is concentrated
N1 has stations in every part of the country.
Atlantsolia is concentrated in the Reykjavik capital region and southwest Iceland, with a smaller number of locations elsewhere around the country, including Akureyri and Egilsstadir.

The real road-trip question: where are the long gaps
F-roads are Iceland’s unpaved highland mountain routes. They run through remote interior terrain far from towns and the Ring Road, and fuel and other roadside services are largely absent once a driver leaves the paved main road network.
