Faxi, also known as Vatnsleysufoss, is a wide, low waterfall on the Tungufljot river, just off the Golden Circle route on Route 35 between the Geysir geothermal area and Reykholt in South Iceland. It is about 80 metres wide and 7 metres tall.

The waterfall is wide and low rather than steep, measuring about 80 metres across and 7 metres in height. Faxi is also known by the older name Vatnsleysufoss.
How Faxi got its name
The name Faxi means mane in Icelandic. It refers to the way the water fans out across a wide basalt ledge like a horse's mane.
The older name, Vatnsleysufoss, is linked to the nearby Vatnsleysa farm.
The salmon and the fish ladder
On the eastern bank, a man-made fish ladder lets Atlantic salmon bypass the falls and continue upstream on the Tungufljot.
The salmon run is a summer event, roughly June through September. During that period, fish can be seen working their way up the stepped ladder.
Facilities and the short walk to the falls
The site has a car park, restrooms, and a picnic area. From the car park, a short path leads to a viewing area beside the falls.
