Iceland Driving Time & Distance Calculator
Choose any two of 40 towns and attractions to get a road distance and nonstop driving-time baseline—without calling a routing API while you plan.
Reykjavík to Vík
- Driving distance
- 188 km
- Driving time

Fastest-route baseline without stops, traffic, weather, or road closures. Leave extra time, especially in winter.

Plan beyond the baseline
Icelandic distances can be deceptive. A route that looks short on a map may include mountain passes, gravel, single-lane bridges, or so many viewpoints that the drive becomes a full day. Use the estimate as the uninterrupted minimum, then add stops and a weather buffer.
Before leaving, check live conditions on umferdin.is. The road authority's information—not this static calculator—is the source to trust for closures and current conditions.
Turn distance into a budget
Once you know the route length, enter it in the Iceland fuel cost calculator. For rental rules, surfaces, weather, and safety basics, read our driving in Iceland guide. If you would rather leave the road planning to a guide, compare South Coast tours.
Frequently asked questions
- How accurate are the Iceland driving times?
- They are fastest-route baseline estimates without stops, live traffic, weather, or closures. Actual trips can take longer, particularly on gravel roads and in winter conditions.
- Does the calculator use straight-line distance?
- No. The matrix follows routes in OpenStreetMap road data and reports the distance of the fastest calculated route between each pair of places.
- Does the driving time include sightseeing stops?
- No. Add time for meals, fuel, viewpoints, rest breaks, and attractions. Waterfalls and coastal routes often take much longer than the uninterrupted driving estimate.
- Should I check road conditions separately?
- Yes. Always check the Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration's current road and weather information before setting out, especially outside summer.
