Fjallabak is a protected highland area in southern Iceland. Access is limited to the summer season, over mountain F-roads that only four-wheel-drive vehicles may use. Several approaches also ford rivers that have no bridge.

Fjallabak is a nature reserve in the southern highlands of Iceland. Its best-known area is Landmannalaugar. The Laugavegur hiking trail starts at Landmannalaugar within the reserve.
Rhyolite mountains and F-roads
The reserve is a rugged highland of mountains, lava fields, and glacial rivers. The rhyolite gives the mountains bands of red, orange, green, and grey. It is reached on mountain F-roads that are open in summer only and restricted to four-wheel-drive vehicles. Some routes into the reserve cross unbridged rivers.
