Grenivík combines mountain routes, former settlement country, riding, fishing, and village facilities. The area includes Kaldbakur, Fjörður, Látraströnd, and activities around the surrounding rivers and mountains.
A village below Kaldbakur
Grenivík lies under Kaldbakur, which has many routes up the mountain. Þengilhöfði, just south of Grenivík, has easier paths. Blámannshattur and Laufáshnjúkur in the surrounding area are more challenging climbs.
Fjörðurnar and Látraströnd
Fjörðurnar and Látraströnd were once populated and are now a hiking area. Walkers learn the story of the former inhabitants while travelling through this area.
Riding, fishing and the snowcat
There is a horse rental at Grýtubakki near Grenivík. Snowcat trips run up Kaldbakur. Fishing takes place in the rivers Fnjóská and Fjarðará in Hvalvatnsfjörður.
Pool, campsite and fishing museum
Grenivík has a swimming pool and a campsite beside the elementary school. The Grenivík Fishing Museum is in the old baiting shed called Hlíðarendi.
For the turf farm on the same shore, see the Laufás turf houses guide.
