Hofsos is one of the oldest trading posts in the country. The village has old timber buildings by the harbour, including one of Iceland's oldest houses. The Icelandic Emigration Centre in the village records the history of Icelanders who emigrated to North America. Hofsos sits on the coast road around the Trollaskagi peninsula.

The water seems to merge with the fjord and mountains beyond. The pool was designed by the architect Sigridur Sigthorsdottir.
