The Icelandic Seal Centre is in Hvammstangi, in West Hunathing, at Strandgata by the harbour.

Research and exhibition in one building

The centre is a research and exhibition centre about the seals found in and around Iceland. Its exhibition presents seal species, their behaviour, and ways to identify them. This gives the centre a clear focus on both seal knowledge and public learning.

What is inside

The centre houses a working laboratory where visitors can see ongoing seal research. It also has a Seal Cinema showing documentaries about Icelandic seals.

Seal watching around Vatnsnes

Staff advise on where and how to watch seals and other wildlife around the Vatnsnes peninsula. The area is described as Iceland's foremost seal and wildlife watching destination.

What else is in the area

The centre provides information about the Hvitserkur sea stack, as well as hiking and horse trails in the region. It is also the tourist information centre for Hunathing vestra.
