The cliffs at Latrabjarg are accessible by car, and there is a walk along the cliffs.
What Latrabjarg is
Latrabjarg is the westernmost point of Iceland. It is a line of several cliffs, 14 km long. Latrabjarg is the most visited tourist attraction in the Westfjords.
Why the birds let you get close
The birds at Latrabjarg are safe from foxes and are fearless. This allows photography from close range. Puffins at Latrabjarg frequent the grassy, higher part of the cliffs.
The safety fence, and why it is there
The edges at Latrabjarg are fragile and loose, and the fall is high. Visitors must not go outside the safety fence because of rockfall danger and bird protection.
The rules inside the reserve
The Environment Agency asks visitors at Latrabjarg to show consideration to the birds. Visitors are asked to use telephoto lenses when photographing and not to thrust phones at birds sitting at the top of the cliff.
Pets are not allowed inside the Latrabjarg reserve during the nesting season. Outside the nesting season, pets are allowed on a lead, and their waste must always be removed.
Overnight stays and camping are not allowed in the Latrabjarg area. The nearest campsite is at Breidavik.
Cliff-descent by members of the public is not allowed at Latrabjarg.
All handling of fire is prohibited at Latrabjarg. Anyone intending to heat food or cook must use the cooking area at Brunnar.

Bicycles are allowed inside the Latrabjarg reserve only on roads and walking routes. Driving off road and off unmarked tracks is not allowed.
Visitors to Latrabjarg must take all their waste away from the area. Visitors are asked to use the footpaths at Latrabjarg where they exist, to limit damage to vegetation and birdlife.
Walking in from Raudasandur
A popular hiking route to the Latrabjarg reserve starts at Raudasandur. Its later part follows the cliff edge from Geldingsskorardalur.
The track at Latrabjarg is not a built-up path. There is deep erosion in the vegetation cover in many places from foot traffic. The condition of the track at Latrabjarg changes with the weather and visibly worsens when summers are wet.
Breidavik on the way
