A geothermal lagoon in the north
The centrepiece here is a milky-blue mineral lagoon. The water is heated to about 36 to 40 degrees Celsius.
Where the water comes from
The lagoon water is drawn from a borehole at around 130 degrees Celsius, tapping the same geothermal field that feeds the steaming vents at Namafjall Hverir nearby. It is then cooled to a comfortable bathing temperature.
Silica and the milky-blue colour
The water is rich in silica and sulphur. The silica gives the water its bright, milky-blue look.
