How to estimate road-trip fuel

Add the driving distance for your planned route, select whether you need to come back the same way, and enter the rental car's fuel consumption in litres per 100 kilometres. The calculator estimates both the litres needed and the total cost in Icelandic króna. Add the number of travellers to see an even cost split.

Treat the result as a planning figure. Wind, winter conditions, gravel roads, luggage, roof boxes, and driving speed can all increase fuel use. It is sensible to leave some margin in both the tank and the budget when stations are far apart.

Are fuel prices the same everywhere in Iceland?
No. Prices vary by fuel company, station, region, self-service option, and discount. Remote stations can cost more, so replace the suggested price with the rate at the station you expect to use.
Where can I find my rental car's fuel economy?
Check the rental listing, vehicle manual, or trip computer for a figure in litres per 100 kilometres. If you only have miles per gallon, convert that figure before using this calculator.
Does the estimate include Iceland's road-use charge?
No. This estimate covers fuel only. Ask your rental company how any kilometre-based road-use charge is collected and whether it appears separately on your rental bill.
