Fridheimar is a family-run tomato farm and greenhouse operation on Iceland's Golden Circle route, in Reykholt in the Blaskogabyggd municipality of south Iceland. It sits between the Geysir geothermal area and Kerid crater. Visitors can come independently or as part of an organised Golden Circle tour.

What Fridheimar is

Fridheimar is run by agronomist Knutur Rafn Armann and horticulturalist Helena Hermundardottir together with their family. The farm combines tomato production with a visitor experience built around the greenhouses.

Its location on the Golden Circle route makes it a stop in south Iceland, in Reykholt in the Blaskogabyggd municipality.

Growing tomatoes year-round with geothermal energy

Tomatoes are grown throughout the year, including Iceland's long, dark winters. The greenhouses are heated with naturally hot geothermal water, which supports production across the seasons.

Electric lighting is used to extend the short daylight of the winter months. The farm also uses imported bumblebees to pollinate the tomato plants.

Fridheimar uses biological pest control instead of chemical pesticides.

Dining in the greenhouse restaurant

The greenhouse restaurant serves tomato-based dishes with tables set among the growing tomato plants inside the greenhouse. The signature dish is tomato soup served with freshly baked bread.

The menu also includes items such as tomato ravioli and a tomato-based drink made with the farm's own tomatoes.

Booking a table ahead is required to dine at the greenhouse restaurant.

The Icelandic horse show

In the warmer months, Fridheimar stages an Icelandic horse show in its own arena. The show introduces the Icelandic horse and demonstrates its gaits, including the tolt.
