Olafsfjordur is a small town on a fjord on the northern side of the Trollaskagi peninsula in North Iceland. It is a fishing town with a harbour.

A town on the Troll Peninsula

Olafsfjordur lies on the coast road around the Trollaskagi peninsula. It is surrounded by steep mountains that rise straight from the fjord.

Mountains, tunnels, and fishing

Road tunnels link Olafsfjordur to Siglufjordur on one side and toward Dalvik and Akureyri on the other. The tunnel to Siglufjordur helped connect the once-remote fjord towns. The mountains around it are used for skiing in winter and hiking in summer. There is a swimming pool with hot tubs, as in other Icelandic towns. A shallow lagoon nearby is good for birdwatching.
