Eldborg is a volcanic crater on the southern side of the Snaefellsnes peninsula in West Iceland. It is about 60 metres high, roughly 200 metres across at the rim, and about 50 metres deep. It formed in an eruption between about 5,000 and 6,000 years ago.

A near-perfect crater ring
It rises from a flat lava field and has a strikingly regular, oval ring shape. The name Eldborg means Fire Fortress.
Hiking to the rim
A marked trail crosses the lava field to the crater, and a path leads up to the rim. From the rim there are views over the lava field and the surrounding lowland. The walk to the crater and back takes a couple of hours over uneven lava ground.
