This guide covers Hveragerði in South Iceland, its geothermal park and the view over the town.
Hveragerði, the town in bloom
Hveragerði has long been a famous destination for visitors, with many hotels and restaurants in the town. Pillars of steam can be seen rising from Hveragerði throughout the year. In summer Hveragerði is a green community with many trees, and its woodland areas are expanding.
The geothermal park
The geothermal area is the most precious feature of Hveragerði, with hot springs inside the town. The geothermal area is fenced off for safety but can be visited during its opening hours. A newer hot spring area emerged after an earthquake, on the hillside above the town.
The view from Kambar
Hveragerði can be viewed from the Kambar mountain slope, where the town is spread out across a lava field.
