How Icelandic speeding fines work
Iceland fines speeding by comparing your measured speed against the posted limit and applying a fixed bracket from the official table: a set ISK amount per 5–10 km/h band, with a licence suspension added once you are far enough over. Paying the resulting police-commissioner fine — with any case costs — within 30 days earns a flat 25% discount; missing that window means paying the full amount.
A small overage right at the limit is not usually finable — the table's first bracket in every zone starts a few km/h above the posted limit. Once you are inside a fineable bracket, though, the amount and any suspension are fixed by the table rather than discretionary.
